Valentine’s day means two things – chocolate and kissing. From a dental point of view, both are potential threats to your teeth and gums! Chocolate is sugary -a dental no-no. Be sure to brush after eating candy and sweets. And kissing has the potential to spread oral diseases by the exchange of bacteria. Research has shown that the bacteria responsible for periodontal disease are spread through saliva. So, if you notice that your Valentine has the early warning signs (tartar, bleeding, red gums and bad breath) of gum disease, you may want to postpone the Valentine kiss until he/she has visited the dentist! Just sayin….. 🙂
